Desde quando comecei a lecionar língua inglesa já ouvi essas perguntas várias vezes: Qual a melhor idade para iniciar uma criança nos estudos de Inglês? A partir de qual idade o aproveitamento dos ensinamentos é maior? Como, onde e com que intensidade começar a ensiná-los?
São várias dúvidas na cabeça dos pais e para as quais nem sempre os professores ou demais profissionais da educação possuem respostas satisfatoriamente convincentes. Não se trata de fugir da responsabilidade, mas sim de saber considerar vários aspectos que estão ligados ao ensino-aprendizagem de crianças.
Muitos pais não veem sentido em colocar os filhos em aulas antes da completa alfabetização deles, pois acreditam que antes disso as crianças não estarão aptas a absorver o conhecimento de um novo idioma, já que ainda não dominam nem mesmo a língua nativa do local onde nasceram.
O argumento anterior desconsidera algumas teorias da aquisição de conhecimento por parte dos alunos e, além disso, desvaloriza alguns exemplos práticos observados com as características proporcionadas por facilidades da modernidade. Quando uma criança possui pais de diferentes nacionalidades, ou que residem em diferentes locais do mundo, ou mesmo apenas são falantes de outros idiomas e incentivam os filhos a também fazerem isso, percebe-se que muitas delas desenvolvem habilidades incríveis para se expressarem em dois ou mais idiomas. A própria alfabetização de alguns desses indivíduos já inclui reconhecimento de sentido de palavras e expressões tanto no idioma nativo quanto em outros aos quais possuem contato.
Expor os pequenos ao desafio de assimilar outra língua não significa expô-los precocemente ao ambiente de salas de aula. Vídeos, desenhos animados da televisão, brinquedos com áudios em outros línguas e jogos interativos que chamem a atenção da criança, todos essas opções podem ser alternativas de um primeiro contato com o universo fascinante dos idiomas. Além disso, são uma boa oportunidade para testar o interesse, a compreensão e a disposição dos filhos antes de despender tempo, dinheiro e cuidados com aulas presenciais em escolas específicas de idiomas.
HOW AND WHERE CAN MY SON START LEARNING ENGLISH?
Since I have started to teach English Language, I have already heard some questions several times: What is the best age to begin to teach English to a child? When is the child more prepared to learn it better? How, where and with what intensity can they learn it?
There are many doubts in parent’s mind and sometimes the teachers or the other educational professionals don’t have good answers for them. We are not refusing to answer these questions, but we have to consider many different aspects, which are important when talking about teaching and learning process.
Many parents don’t understand why they should matriculate their kids in English classes before they are completely able to read and write in their native language, because the adults believe they will not be able to assimilate the knowledge.
The previous argument doesn’t consider some theories about the learning process of the students. Besides, it doesn’t valuate some practical examples we can observe with the facilities provided by the modernity and the technology. When a child have parents who come from different nationalities or who live in different places around the world or even can speak other idioms and allow that their sons practice it too, we can notice that these kids can improve amazing abilities to talk in two or more idioms. The children can use videos, cartoons, toys and dynamic games to assimilate another language. It’s possible to practice without putting them inside a classroom. There are good options to introduce the ids to the fascinating world of idioms. Besides, it’s a manner to prove if they are interested and if they really can understand the subjects, before the parents spend time and money with traditional classes in specific English Schools
